    Good video on how to tie this knot however, this knot should only be used to tie mono backing to your braided main line it should not be used to tie your braided main line to a mono leader. The FG knot is far superior to this. it's thinner, smoother, and slides through the line guides much easier. So, while this one will work, it will also potentially damage your line guides.

    Thats a lovely Yellow Fin..their bluefin counterparts are labeled as endangered because they get so massive, and sell for thousands of dollars for 1 fish. And many fishermen disregard the catch capacity regulations and laws. I doubt we'll have bluefin tunas within the next 300 years

    • @Johnnyfishalot
      @Johnnyfishalot 7 днів тому

      oh no... I did not know that!! I mean not allowing sweet corn is kinda silly, its super soft and practically disolves in water. Its not like its boiled hard corn where the fish have trouble digesting it. Have you ever tried boilies? Thats probably your best bet :)

      @@Johnnyfishalot my buddy was thinking of white bread :)

    • @Johnnyfishalot
      @Johnnyfishalot 7 днів тому

      @@Mr-Eleven Bread does work, but it works best with floater rods and setups (top water fishing for carp). If you guys want to be your baits down and fish for carp I'd honestly recommend some hair rigs and some boilies, you don't have to go nuts and the rigs and baits are pretty affordable. I'd recommend (not affiliated at all with either company) mainline baits or sticky baits. I think you can get both delivered to your house from BigCarpTackle.com (again not affiliated at all haha, just a sincere recommendation). The other thing you can look for is oatmeal combo packbaits like the one I showed you, but instead of corn you use seed and oatmeal. If you do want to try boilies I'd recommend only a few flavors to start out with (again you can go insane looking at all the nonsense carp marketing out there)... I'd go with manilla (sweet) and something savory like bloodworm or krill boilies. Let the carp tell ya what they like day to day... I hope that helps... let me know if you have any questions or if you need any help. Thanks so much for the comment... really appreciate it. LEt me know if you catch any nice carp!! Love those fish!!!

    This is a good lesson for me because I've never had luck with crabs for bait. I have a trap I dug out of the sand and I fixed it so I could catch some. I'd have to check the rules. My buddy just bought peeler crabs and some kind of string for tying them to the hooks. That's totally new to me. I have stuff to learn. Cool.

    • @Johnnyfishalot
      @Johnnyfishalot 7 днів тому

      Hey @comfortablynumb9342 always glad to hear from you!! Yeah crab is a dynamite bait for sure... you don't have to go nuts, you can catch some green or blueclaw crabs in pots (gotta get a permit though) and just catch your own bait. Bait shops also sell crab as well... you can always get some jigs for crabbing like I showed in the drum video or I show in some of the black fish videos... Not a hard bait to use and works GREAT for those redfish you like to catch ;) LEt me know if you have any questions. Thanks.

    In 65 years i never paid more than $75 bucks for a Rod. Had the good fortune to come across Star Rods back in mid 90's in South Florida. Star Rods Aerial series ($82 dollars now) lasted me 3 decades. Six foot rod was perfect for Yak fishing. Caught everything from crappie to 25-30 pound shark while surf fishing Canaveral National Seashore. Star uses what they call E-Glass ---- regardless killer spinning rod. Oklahoma Striper Guide i came across a couple months ago uses BPS Fish Eagle. $80 Bucks currently ---- i'll be buying one for 2025 fishing season !

    Hi Johnny! Do you "always" have the line come off the top of the spinning spool when it's against the box? I always thought that the spool should lay flat to avoid twist when spooling a spinning reel any at 63 now, found this extremely interesting after all these years! I might spool my 3000 reel very soon before a trip to the beach and will likely use this method and appreciate the time you took to share this information! One more thing... I'm so impressed with you and your kids in the videos. You "engage" them and I enjoy that immensely. I watched a guy on YT push his kid off camera while he was recording and was 100% appalled by it. I hope your little ones grow up to be as passionate about fishing as you are (if possible - LOL)! All the best - Freddy

    • @Johnnyfishalot
      @Johnnyfishalot 9 днів тому

      Thanks so much Freddy, for tuning in and the SUPER nice comment... makes my day!! Thanks so much... Its funny you mention to lay the spool flat, so many people do that and have been told to do that over the years. I myself used to do that as well, haha. When I worked on fishing boats years ago and you have to work with the gear all the time in mass for efficiency of catching fish, you tend to learn a lot faster. haha. The problem with laying the spool flat is it comes of in coils (I'm sure you heard tag face up or tag face down) and that actually results in more tangles coming off the spool... If you reel it on your line the way they spooled it on at the factory (by rolling it) you greatly reduce the tangles. So to answer your question directly, yes I "always" spool my line in this way. I have another video on how to even further reducing tangles by soaking the spool in water for a few days prior to spooling... You can check that video out here (if interested), which is focused on ultralight but does work for other reels (mono only): ua-cam.com/video/T6zii_LjZgQ/v-deo.html Also... you may be interested that I'm actually trying to film a video today explaining 3 different ways to spool your line and the different amounts of line you should put on your spool for different situations... I plan to cover everything anyone would ever need to know about spooling your line. hahaha Stay tuned for that one, might be ready in two weeks (IF I can film it today... haha)... Also thanks so much for the comment about my kiddos... yeah some people take themselves too seriously on youtube or fishing or whatever... For me the success of fishing with the kids is keeping them out of the water, keeping them from putting some terrible plant in their mouth, and/or otherwise injuring themselves. Catching the fish, if you catch any, is a bonus. hahaha Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment. I really appreciate it. I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the channel... more videos coming!!! What do you typically like to fish for, if you don't mind me asking... Have a great fathers day weekend!!!

      Hey @jason9592 NICCEEEE Hope you enjoy the reel... I actually just caught a bunch of big drum fish with that accurist and it did great on 50 and 60lb fish in heavy current... I always recommend setting your drag at 30% of the breaking strength of your line... so if you are fishing with 10lb test line, set your drag for 3lbs (at least to start) The accurist has a crazy capacity for drag, but no reason to have that drag locked out... Does that help?? LEt me know if you have any further questions. Thanks so much for tuning in and for the comment... REally appreciate it.

      Hey Matthew... I fish in NJ mostly, but also fish in MD (though I don't buy grass shrimp in MD). Here in NJ I can say buying live grass shrimp in the bait shops is pretty expensive compared to a giant bag of shrimp in the grocery stores... I also noticed in MD I would always get Salmon scraps at the grocery stores after they filleted the salmon, but I can't really find that in NJ too much either. Very weird considering the states aren't that far apart. That's awesome though that you getting good deals on live grass shrimp down there... awesome!! How's the fishing been down your way?

      Hey Frank!! Great comment... I couldn't agree more... fantastic rod, I own two of them and I also had one of the guides get knicked... The great thing about those guides is there are the easiest component on the rod to fix... haha those rods definitely do the trick for me though... thanks so much for watching and the great comment!
